STARS REIGN! DEFEAT GRIZZLIES TO CAPTURE TITLE!

LOS ANGELES STARS ( 13-7 )- 29   Utah Grizzlies (13-5 )- 17

Atlanta, Georgia-  Chase Fourcade completed 26 of 32 passes for 283 yards and a touchdown with one interception in leading the Los Angeles Stars to a 29-17 victory over the Utah Grizzlies in Pantheon Cup VI Sunday night. 

The Stars win gives the city of Los Angeles its second professional football champion this year. The NFL'S Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl in February. 

Los Angeles got on the board first as Fourcade pitched left to Algeron Brown who took it in from one yard out for a touchdown. The Stars made it 10-0 as Jason Sanders converted on a 50 yard field goal attempt with 4:41 remaining in the first frame. 

The Stars increased their lead after Jason Sanders kicked a 31 yard field goal early in the second quarter, making the score 13-0.

Utah got on the board with 6:26 remaining in the second as Giovanni Lugo booted a 18 yard field goal, making the score  Stars-13  Grizzlies-3.

Jason Sanders booted a 53 yard field goal with 3:14 remaining in the second giving LA a 16-3 lead with 3:14 remaining in the half. 

Utah cut the lead to 16-10 as Dakota Prucup found Chris Swain in the end zone for the touchdown. The Stars answered with a Jason Sanders 38 yard field goal with one second remaining that was set up after a 22 yard catch and run by Ricky Seals Jones giving the Stars a 19-10 lead at the half.

After Dylan Wynn sacked Chase Fourcade for a 4 yard loss on 3rd and goal from the 5. Jason Sanders increased the Stars lead to 22-10 with 11:11 into the third quarter. 

Early in the fourth quarter Dakota Prucup checked down to Larry Rose on second and four for a 10 yard gain at the 15 of LA.. Prucup then threw a medium in pass to Darreus Rogers for the touchdown cutting the Stars lead to 22-17.

That would be as close as the Grizzlies would get however, as on the Stars next possession Fourcade hit Ricky Seals Jones on a medium cross 11 yard touchdown pass, that was set up by Todd Gurly's 11 yard scamper. Final Score  Los Angeles- 29  Utah- 17.

Todd Gurly rushed for 68 yards on 15 carries an 5 receptions for 41 yards. Algeron Brown ran 8 times for 19 yards and a touchdown.  Ricky Seals Jones had 9 receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown and voted the games MVP. Tanner Gentry had 5 catches for 54 yards and Juwan Johnson 4 receptions for 67 yards for the Stars. Jason Sanders converted on 5 of 5 field goals with a long of 54 yards. 

Sailosi Lattimore recorded 6 tackles, Corey Littleton 5 tackles, Eric Reid and Kenny Vaccaro each recorded 4 tackles and Duke Riley had 2 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in the win.

Dakota Prucup completed 18 of 29 passes for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also led the Grizzlies in rushing with 25 yards on 8 carries. 

Larry Rose had 5 receptions for 46 yards and ran 6 times for 4 yards. Darreus Rogers caught 4 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. Christopher Herndon 4 receptions for 56 yards and Chris Swain 2 receptions for 15 yards and a score. Giovanni Lugo was 1 for 1 on field goal attempts with a long of 19 yards for Utah.

TJ Lee had 9 tackles, Marquestion Huff 8 tackles and a forced fumble, Jabar Westerman 7 tackles, Willie Jefferson 6 tackles and a forced fumble, Solomon Ajayi 6 tackles, Anfernee Jennings 6 tackles, Dylan Wynn 3 tackles and a sack, and Ronnie Yell 3 tackles and a interception in the loss. 

" I am at a loss for words right now to be honest. Gotta give credit to these guys, they stepped it up when we had to. This has been a great ride! Hopefully we will do it again next year!" said an elated Chase Fourcade.

" Man, all the glory to our savior Jesus Christ! This is a great organization and made the right moves to get us here. Chase ( Fourcade), Todd ( Gurly) and all the rest just played phenomenally. We are the Champs baby!!!" said Pantheon Cup VI mvp Ricky Seals Jones. 

" What can I say! These men answered when our backs were against the wall and nobody believed in us. Chase ( Fourcade) kicked ass and played his heart out. I couldn't ask for more. Ricky ( Seals Jones) played awesome all season. And what can I say about Todd ( Gurly), we brought him on to give this team a boost and he did just that, both he and Alex ( Collins). Our defense played hard and consistently all season. What a great group of guys!" said Stars Head Coach Rex Ryan. 

Utah Head Coach Mike Kafka said following the game in a somber Utah locker room: " We have a great group of guys here and I am so proud of what they have accomplished this year. They are hurting right now, but definitely have nothing to hang their heads about. "

" I want to congratulate Coach Ryan and Los Angeles, they played a helluva game. I have no doubt that we will be back. Gonna take a break for a bit, then take this loss as a learning process towards the next step."
